Red Sox vs Orioles Game 3

Finally, we got the pitching result we have been looking for as the Red Sox defeated the previously unbeaten Orioles 4-2 last night. Kelly wasn’t what you would call sharp, but he managed to get the job done when it counted and held them to 2 runs in 5 innings. He did throw 120 pitches in 5 innings, so it was a sloppy looking, but effective job. This is the kind of pitching I know the staff is capable of  up and down the rotation. Let’s hope Kelly’s start can get the rest of them going.  Continue reading

Orioles vs Red Sox game 2

Another disappointing loss for the Red Sox. That’s three in a row and what was looking like a pretty good start of the season at 3-1 has become the threat of mediocrity at 3-4. The game had all the markings of a well pitched game for a change through 5 innings. The Sox had a 4-2 lead and Buchholz was doing well despite a two run homer in the 4th. Then came the sixth and seventh innings. Continue reading

A poor opening day for the Red Sox as pitching did them in again. This time, however the poor pitching was done by the two off season acquisitions that were supposed to make the staff better this year. Price gave up 5 runs in the 3rd and Kimbrel walked two and then gave up a three run homer to Chris Davis, the first three run homer he has given up in his career. Is this what we are to expect the rest of the way. It would appear   that the poor pitching by starters has rubbed off on what are supposed to be the bright spots so  far. Their good pitching was supposed to rub off the rest of the squad. Let’s hope this doesn’t continue.

Red Sox vs. Blue Jays Game 3

What can you say about a game in which the Red Sox offense was completely stymied by the excellent pitching of Marco Estrada. Either that or they forgot to show up today. It’s a little hard to tell which over the radio. Nonetheless they were shutout 3-0 after averaging 7 runs per game for the first four games of the season. Red Sox pitching was adequate for a number 5 starter as Wright went 6 2/3 innings and only gave up two runs on 5 hits. Let’s hope the offense doesn’t go into a slump now and the team a subsequent losing streak. Continue reading
